Using technology to support expansion plans across SE Asia

Digital technology can – and should – be an enabler of business success, according to VHR Consultancy’s managing director Low Fang Kai. His executive search firm operating in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand has invested in technology to help it run and grow its business in the region. “We’re big users of LinkedIn and enjoy its functionality, so that shaped our criteria when we looked to move to a cloud database platform,” he explains.

VHR Consultancy specialises in executive search for the engineering sector. With ambitious growth plans across SE Asia, the firm wanted to extend its systems capability to support that growth. “We’d primarily been using manual spreadsheets, along with LinkedIn, to manage the business and recognised that we had to automate and centralise key functions, such as candidate tracking,” Low continues.

The firm is currently using the candidate tracking within Invenias but Low wants to do much more. “There’s a lot of functionality that we haven’t yet utilised and we’re looking forward to working with the locally-based Invenias account manager to ensure we use Invenias to its maximum potential. I want everyone in our firm to embrace the platform.

“The centralised database for candidate tracking allows our consultants to document the journey of each candidate. The ability to trace each action in sequence means that if a consultant moves on to another job or leaves the company, we can easily keep track of the candidates they were managing.

“Looking ahead, we want to use Invenias for matching our clients’ requirements with the candidates in the system. I believe so much in this product and know that we can leverage it to help us build our business.”

VHR Consultancy recently won several awards in the Asia Recruitment Awards 2018, including the Grand Winner of Recruitment Solution Provider. Low Fang Kai also received the award for Recruitment Consultant of the Year. “We’re competing against a lot of big companies,” he says, “so we need to use technology, such as the Invenias, to ensure that we stay competitive. These awards reflect both our strength as a service provider to the engineering sector and our ability to use technology to punch above our weight.”
